    had the pest inspector in

    G'day All,
thought I'd try a spider wrap as they look good. I'll make a few mods with the next one but happy with the way this one turned out. I went with the blue on this as I used the APLS triangular reel seat in blue and a matching blue gimble. The blank is a Calstar 210.
    Cheers, Jan.

    Looks good Jan!

What do you think of those triangular Alps seats?
I have a Calstar 655 I'm thinking of putting one on just because they look a bit different.
    Cheers,
    Owen

    Looks good Jan.

what would you change on the next one??

I'm asking because I said the same thing about my first and only redback.

there would be two things I would definately change, firstly, I wouldn't use metalic, except for the red on the spider & secondly, I would change the angle of the lay-out threads, to achieve a less 'blocky' looking spider.... if you understand what I'm getting at.

    Owen,

I've used those reel seats on a couple of my rods & find them OK, actually they look fantastic IMO. One tiny issue.... make sure they are done up very firmly.

    cheers r.

Re: had the pest inspector in

thanks for the comments Owen and Roz, I appreciate it.
Owen the seats look great and I ended up getting a few different colours to try out. I'll only use them for overheads as they feel much better in the hand that way than for an eggbeater imo anyway.
Roz, I'll stick with the metalic silver and red as most of the guides I use one this rod are ICMNSG's so they fit the scheme of the rod, especially with the silver coloured ALPS seats and gimble. I was thinking the same as you with regards to the body of the spider so that it doesn't look so much like a diamond. I'll thicken the legs at the base of the body as well. I'll do a couple of black threads on the outside of the body and then highlight the whole thing with one metalic thread and then do black for the rest instead of the metalic blue like I've done with this one.
    Cheers. Jan.
