    Outfished and outclassed

My boy has done it again.
We fish every weekend , mostly freshwater, chasing bass. Occasionally we hit the beaches and estuaries around the place.
The last two times we've fished the salt, he has outfished me. The first time it was 5 to 2 in his favour, this time 2 to 0...with him taking home the honours.
Deepwater bend was the destination of his choosing this weekend past.
A great place to take kids for a fish, with the walkways and park very close by.
Sorting the gear the night before had me rearranging our backpacks which we take on our freshwater trips, tackle boxes full of colouful Japanese lures and spinnerbaits were left at home and replaced with a small tackle box full of long shank hooks, bream sized hooks and sinkers ( this tacklebox was also left at home on the kitchen bench ( DOH !!! )
Madly scrambling through my backpack I found one small baitholder hook which went straight onto Calebs line, I was left with a box of 1/16th jigheads and some slider soft plastics which were scrounged from the bottom of my pack.
While I was goofing around and trying to improvise, Caleb had two little bream up on the deck, makes me wonder what he'll be fishing like in ten years time.....that is if the EPA doesn't put a complete halt to it.grrrrrrrrr....
Small pieces of fresh chicken breast did the damage, both fish were released, the second one was quickly grabbed by one of the very clever and quick comorants that hang around the place, much to Calebs annoyance " That's my fish you stupid bird"he yelled at the slick little fish thief. The trip home was spent with me trying to explain to him why animals eat other animals. Tricky stuff.

I am forever being reminded of just how quickly time slips by us. It still feels like yesterday to me when I took a photo of my daughter with her first bream before I had a boat. We stopped off at Southport and fished near the rock wall. Great times and I can tell you that they will not stop. He will be by your side fishing loads of times in the coming years. Well done little fella.

My son is 22 and he usually wins the day. But what he doesn't realise is that I still enjoy the smile on his face when he catches a fish.

    Well done ,Caleb.

Found out something interesting on the weekend. I took young master Caleb over to Hayes inlet on Saturday morning. I fished plastics most of the morning with out a touch, He got some nice little bream and whiting on gulp sandworms. I was using the same bait on my light spin stick, and also using my baitcaster with some bigger plastics to temp some flathead. Not a touch or a nibble, even toadfish ignored me

I switched my rods and commenced casting, Caleb was over near my backpack fiddling around with the plastics on my spin gear. I casually strolled over to find him spraying some scent on my soft plastic ( he loves to help out and we use garlic scent on plastics for bass )
Instead of garlic scent he has been spraying my lures with Bushman's insect repellant.
I guess whatever gives him an advantage.
