    Another Jack!!!

Seeing that the weather was going to be spot on we decided late friday that we would go for a fish the following morning. Rolled up at my mates place at 6:30am to pick him up, which was a struggle as he had only gotten home at 4:30 am .

Anyway got on the water by 8ish to perfect conditions. We decided to fish a ledge that we know against the island concentrating on top of it as the tide rose. We were using yabbies and prawns to see if we could get a livie or two as well as a bait jig. The bait jig wasn't having much luck so I spiced up each hook with some prawn flesh, still no luck.

I thought "oh well it's good to be on the water anyway" and retired to having a couple of beers and soaking the prawns we had. Towards the top of the tide my mate Joel had a good hit and hooked up to a 44cm Cod, which was kept for a feed. I dropped the spiced up bait jig as there wasn't as much current and immediately hooked up some nice Pike and large Herring. "Happy days, we are in with a chance!" I tied on a Mustad Hoodlum and sent the Pike down on my new TLD.

Meanwhile, my mate Joel was hurriedly putting on his livie too. We sat there for maybe 10 mins and Joel screams to me "your rod!". I turned around and grabbed it out of the rod holder, cranked the drag up and started fighting the fish. My mate Cameron was sitting 20 metres up in another boat and he called it for a shark as a few had been caught by other boats. I thought that it might have been a good cod.

After a short, but awesome tussle I saw colour and it was red. I yelled out "its a good jack!" and Joel slid the net under 53cms of Jack. We were yelling and yahooing for about 5 mins. after that and to say we were happy was an understatement .

    Cheers Benny
