Headed out yesterday on "Baitrunner" offshore from Double Island with seven regulars on board including Frank the fishing machine and 87 year old Ken Smith from Gympie who was doing his 200th trip on "Baitrunner".
Outside the bar the conditions were nearly a glass out and we proceeded to some marks out wide selected by Tony the operator of 'baitrunner" and Craig (zoot) the skipper.
First mark we pulled some Hussar, pearlies and moses pearch and then moved about 2 miles to the next mark which produced a bag out on Hussar to 50cm two red Emperor to 9kg and mixture of parrot, moses pearch and pearlies.
The moved south about 3 miles where Craig spotted a good show on the sounder. This spot produced some good snapper to 6kg, a rare Robinson's Sea Bream which was landed by old Ken, moari cod and the monster Red Emperor which was hooked by old Ken on his $40 ugly stick and after he was exhausted he handed the line to Frank the fishing machine who after a mighty struggle on the little ugly stick cranked up the big Red which strained the scales at just over 18kg.
Ken had a mighty good day to celebrate his 200th trip but he was buggered at the end.
Thanks to Tony and Craig for a memorable trip.
Cheers
Barry
