Well after saying before Christmas how I was going to get out a lot more, then experiencing the awful christmas weather and then problems with the steering cable, the weather gods were finally smiling.
Packed the boat and decided to hit the bay with my mate paul and my ever faithful and reliable border collie - Jonty.
Along with half of Brisbane we headed to mud - did not get their however until about 6 and saw the boats dotting the horizon on the way over there.
Did numerous drifts on the northern side with paul definitely doing better with bait than me on plastics although every sweetlip was about 29cm.
Tried plastic after plastic for no luck. Had one good run on a pillie under a pink skirt until it took me to the reef and that was the end of that.
In summary a number of undersize sweetlip and squire but no keepers. Thought about heading to the sandhills but after not getting on the water for some time decided to just keep moving around mud to maximise fishing time.
A great day out, thoroughly enjoyed by all, even with no keepers. As they say though - just being out there on a day like today is fantastic - catching something is simply a bonus.
I hope everyone else got out there and enjoyed the day - fish or no fish. It would be interesting to know if anyone caught any macs or whiting at the sandhills.
Better luck next time. It is true what they say about a poor day fishing is better than a good day at work. I have to admit I was expecting a lot of boats out there which there were but I was also expecting the fish to be shy and not bite at all. Went out with my kids today and we managed a feed at least.
