    Freshwater Jacks and Bream

Fished the lower sections of a freshwater creek just north of Mackay with Richard twice last week, once from the bank the other time from a tinnie with ok results.

With all the rain we've had the water velocity of the creeks has been chargin down making lure fishing a little difficult, but a few fish have been about taking advantage of the food getting washed downstream. First arvo session walking the bank i managed 3 tarpon (40ish), an archer and a nice Jack around 40cm all on an ecogear sx48 and 6lb string. Richard also tameing a few 'poon' on a squidgy. All fish released.

Next session in the same creek we decided to take the tinnie, and managed half a dozen small Jacks to 35cm and 5 Bream to 33cm, and busted off by a very large Jack. All these fish were caught mainly on sx40's and a few on 48's. Most of the fish came from the edges of newly submerged grass, where they were feeding on freshwater shrimp, not exactly 'typical' Jack habitat. They're a lot easier to land when they're in the grass rather than in the sticks ...

    Cheers
