    aussie day 1770

went for a fish at 1770 for our usual aussie day fish. deckie to mate brett in his 625 outsider. there was another 625 an old reef ranger and a haines with us.
pretty crap weather on the saturday getting half way to boult reef just after lunch. first drop saw me blow a decent red to the reef, but fortunately i did get the next at about nine kg's.
found a great football field of fluff glued to the bottom and we came back to this on the way home to bag four reds in one drift, before the other boats joined the drift., and of course shutting the reef down.
fished around fitzroy to get our bag of red throat and ten trout. fished plastics in twenty metre mark and outfished the bait for size and quantity.

Excellent report and great to see the fish on show. I have been up that way before but never with the boat.
How far out do you go?
Is it an overnight trip or do you leave and return fro 1770 each day?

TC , we stayed out at fitzroy for the night anchored in the lagoon. we tried to fish outside but it was just not worth it. usually the trip is around 240ks round trip.

Rhys, mate we're gonna have to have that fish outside soon. you would of been
so proud of the plastics ... absolutely brained.

Looks like you blokes had a good trip Ben but gee that ugly bugger in middle is a worry.

Certainly sounds like ideal red country where you got those ones but be carefull with them as they become very addictive.

    Ta greg,

not wrong on the addictive side of things. Its been so hard to change the ways of fishing offshore for reds. When you are always drilled into fishing as light as possible, to change and send it on down and keep it on the bottom just doesn't seem right. but proof is in the pudding.

Thumbs up Re: aussie day 1770

Ballsie - great report and fantastic fish.
I have been to1770 previously and really had trouble with the weather getting in and out the creek for the whole week we were there. After that I gave up and hunted around and bought a place up at Turkey Beach, so I don't have an issue getting in or out over the bar etc.
If you want a larger place, with nice views and a big deck to relax on after that much filleting and fishing, maybe you can give us a reply and I could do a deal in exchange for some fishing tips for similar fish ? The house is an old Qlder and has been renovated with all the usual mod cons. It has a Dbl, 4 singles and a double bunk as well as a day bed, so depends on who's coming, as to how many it sleeps. But the deck is 34' x 24' and overlooks the water, so its not back to relax there in the evening. Since its on 5 acres, theres plenty of parking and plenty of water to wash down the boat and gear without restrictions etc.
I'm going up for the May Day w/e tomorrow night and back Monday, so if you're up that way, come back and let me know soon.
Thanks again for a great report on just how good it is up that way outside.
