    Lonesome mud crab

    Hi All,

Set a few pots in moogarumpum creek at victoria point yesterday to see what was around.

There were 2 pots already in the creek.

Went back this morning, all four pots were their , and the grand total was one mud crab.

would have liked a few more crab, but at least the pots were still their. I'm thinking they may have been checked for us, at some stage.

    Cheers
    Scott

I close my pots up with netting clips.
Makes it a little more difficult for the scum to check em.

    Hey Scott,

No offence but just because there was only one crab in the pots does not mean they were necassarily checked. maybe the crabs are just not in that particular creek in large numbers at the moment.

Like bogus pokus suggests, zip tie your pots and also identify where you pot was in regards to a land mark. when you check the pot again if it is not in the same spot then your pots were probably checked.

I have only started crabbing since xmas and when I lay may for pots I have never had more than one large buck in a pot at any one time.

I never ever leave my pots, I work em and fish at the same time. Too many scrotes out there waiting to steal your catch.

    Hey smurfish,

Good to hear you are getting into the crabbing, i'm only new to this website but have been crabbing for about 20 years.

Like you i sit with my pots for the most part, as there are people who are happy to help themselves( i believe the minority). having said; it amuses me how a lot of people on this site tend to report no catches of crabs equals some one checking their pots.

In regards to the number of crabs in your pots, i also will usually only 1 legal buck in a pot at any given time but occasionally when the crabs are thick or on the move, you will get 2 in them.

If you want any info or tips or you have picked up some good advice pm me would love to chat to a fellow crabbing fan!

    Cheers

    Bermo
