    rigs for the river

I have fished the river on a few occasions with very limited success. i am used to chasing squire at wello etc with no weight, just mainline to hook. could this type of rig be used and if so, is it only suited to slack water times. if weight is required, would a trace be the go, or just put a ball sinker on top of the hook.

this is probably a very basic question to most people, but after trying a number of different rigs, i just can't seem to produce the goods

    any info appreciated

    Hi pete
I fish the river a bit
most times i fish with a free running ball sinker no swival
works well with the bream but also well on the flattys , whitting but if that dosnt work thorow a swival on bout two foot back down but not much weight thats the secret.,
    Happy fishing.

Mate I would keep it simple. Just a running sinker to a swivel with a 700mm trace. Use the lightest line/leader possible and always use the freshest local bait you can find..........
