    Redcliffe 8kg challenge

I fish abournd "LIBERTY" for the competition.
We had a trail run on friday hit the trench didnt find a great deal of bait or fish so we heaed to towards hutchies for a look.
In the 3 hours we caught 4 yelowfin and a 6kg dollie.Had fair shows of bait and fish so agreed hutchies was the place to start.

Saturday gametime,We had to drop of a mates car at scarbie boat club left there at 5.25 then heaed to bribie to jump on liberty.
As we left scarbie all the boys where heading out of newport."Water Rat" was just leaveing the leads. We made up time and caught him at combie point doin 43knots.We made it to hutchies with 5 minutes to spare before start fishing.
Black pearl tagged a black at 7.20am and there where 4 blacks tagged for the day Animal 2 Blacks ,100kg speciment from Hey Mate East of the cape 100mtr line.
Big Business Weighed 2 hoo 18 kg and 16.9kg
Conditions where abosolute crap 20-25knots 2 mtrs on 2 mtrs. The under 7mtr boat where doing it tough and a take my hat off to them.
South of the cape plenty of bait,As you headed to the 100mtrs line the wind gained 10knots.
We caugth 1 yellowfin lost 2 hoo 1 a bite off and 1 lost due to it running betwwen the motors in the final stages.

Sunday we started in the trench then headed back to hutchies.
Conditions where better then saturday but still not great 20knots ese With 1.5mtrs of swell.
Didnt find alot of bait on the trench. We made it to 1 of my marks at hutchies triple on yellowfin.
Then managed a line class hoo(8.05kg) lost another next to the boat 15-20kg range due to a pulled hook.
Didnt turn a reel for 4 hours.
No marlin for the day from any 1.

The Big winner was Animal 2blacks and 1 yellowfin, calcutta was $4400 for first.
Steve also won the last man standing,A 5hp four stone johnson motor. All up they won about $10000 in prizes and money.
Second was the Black Pearl on a count back 1black$2200 calcutta.
Third was Hey Mate 1 black$750.
Under 7mtr was won by Aquisition.
Not a great deal of fish around.
We finshed in 5th spot overall.
    But had fun anyway.

    Cheers Troy

    Re: Redcliffe 8kg challenge

Many of the 36 boats that fished didn't turn a reel in 2 days and when they did turn often it was a starving striped tuna which were thick, feeding on tiny bait.

Thank you for putting that report in Troy. It was an awesome weekend. I didnt have the opportunity to fish it. I was the irritating voice on the microphone at the club during the weekend. That Liberty is a "weapon". All the skippers and crew on the big boats comented on it as it was overtaking them on the way back to port. And well done to Stephen and Kelly on 'Animal' for their success on winning the tourney. Maybe next year the Blacks will show up in some numbers and the weather gods will be a little kinder. All the under 7m boats deserved a medal for going out in those conditions. If anyone gets the chance..check out the custom paint job on 'Aquisition', it looks great.

    Cheers
    Greg

PS. the partying was pretty awesome on each night as well.......and the rock band on sunday nearly cracked the foundations of the club....LOL

Hats off to you jim was a bit gnarly on saturday Aquisition was looking the part.
We wont be at bribie the owner has work commitments and has to go around the work in 3 wks.
But a plus is he will be in miami when the y hold the boat show.lol\

Liberty is a 26ft Southport Boastworks imported from the states twin 250hp four stroke yammies they where the first in the country.
Variable hull rise 60 degrees at the nose and 22 in the arse.Topspeed is 27/28knots.

Yeah greg all the boys where impressed by the on water performance.
We had a play a few on the way in and waved as we passed.
We where at hutchies with the black pearl (3100 noosa cat)and lost site of them by the time we passed combie.

Good post mate, atleast you got out there and wet a line i didn't even bother putting the boat in cause of the weather conditions. Has been a while between wetting lines for us in my boat but that will change soon i hope. Well done though maybe next time we'll be out there

The skipper from Marlin Magic organised a kick arse band for the Sunday nite that nearly blew the club apart. What a party.

I was fishing on "Filthy" We considered dumping the 1/2 ton of water and 1.5 ton of fuel and starting the second engine to give you blokes a run on the way in on Saturday.
