Are we knuckle-dragging, bottom dwelling predators?

Have you read page 41 of todays (friday) Courier mail? A Mzzz(must be) Daphne Haneman describes modern day fisherman as "Knuckle-dragging, bottom dwelling predator that is primed to stalk the oceans until they're empty of life, after finding the evolutionary process (upward) tricky."

What a crock. Who is this woman? Why would the courier publish this crap?

I think she should probably go shave her legs n armpits and have a shower!!

    Interested in your thoughts.

    Cheers Scott.

    PS off line till tuesday.

I dont care what that particular section of the community think of me or describe me , I'll keep enjoying the bay, observing bag limits and gazetted zones responsibly

A person could consider modernday preservationists as Jew Gassin Nazi's - they care nil for any individual apart from themselves, wherever Ideology is at stake.

The philosophy is identical, only the direction is different.

It's my wife's pseudonym. She said that I needed to give up fishing but I didn't think she'd go to these lengths! The reason that I drag my knuckles is that my shoulders are so heavily stooped in submission to her wisdom.

she is one the reasons we are getting the epa closures with comments like that. states at the bottom of the artical she is a freelance writer or something like that but knows stuff all about fishing it is always the fisherman that drops the bag and kills the turtle not the councils fault for not having collection traps on there stormwater system just a thought

This is what people in power think of the humble fisho, some neanderthal from the dark ages that don't no squat bout the environment.

This is the attitude we must change, but as we know humans are a slow to change. Thats why we are getting pumped up the jacksy with the proposed zone changes coming.

Well I sure hope the ones who take personal offense to the crap published don't take it too personal and send the Courier Mail hate mail in response to it and prove her right. Be calm, diplomatic, clever, witty just to prove that we are intellectually stimulated human beings that just love to go fishing and provide for their loved ones.

was suprised that the courier mail printed such crap .
sure some fisher people rape the place but most of us
are pretty decent and only take what we need . hey what does she think will
happen to boat yards , bait & tackle stores ,petrol stations . scary to think how much fuel gets used every weekend between towing vehicles & marine engines !
I have seen plenty of turtles , dolphins & even a dugong but I havent seen any dead ones yet . obviously there will be but to such an extent as mentione in the article I dont think so .
    cheers haggis .

Gone through and had a look, and would be most interested to see any 'letters to the editor', or follow ups this article has in the paper.

    My thoughts are:
Sensationalism and riding on the back of recent events.
No decent stories available for a freelance so lets build a story.
The Australian media reporting 'stance' is 90% crap, 9% truth, 1% make a crap story sellable, today tonight, current affair, womans day. The 1% could make you rich as a freelancer....
Apparently they are genetically modifying Tomatoes to make them redder...I heard from a mate at the pub that there are 57 varieties.....research that girl!!

Re: Are we knuckle-dragging, bottom dwelling predators?

The fact she calls me a knuckle dragging bottom dwelling predator doesnt bother me in the slightest lets face it we refer to that type of person as a tree hugging, pot smoking hippie loving greenie.
What does bother me is this crap gets a run in main stream media,we need a mainstream voice i think.

    Cheers Craig
