Thread: Bream rods?

    Question Bream rods?

    Hi guys,

Just need a little bit of advice here. I am looking at purchasing a couple of rods for fishing bream on plastics and hard bodies - mainly soft plastics.

I have a couple of 1000 size reels and am looking to see which rods are the most suitable.

I currently am fishing 1lb, 2lb & 3lb fireline crystal on my reels.

I have had a look at the gloomis dsr8200s and quite like the feel - yes/no???

    Cheers,
    Shaun.

Egrell are cheaper than loomis and as good if not better IMO. Egrell S1 or S2

Yep I second that. I used to use Loomis, but had the chance to try and Egrell. Now I have and S2 and about to get an S4 and S10. couldn't be happier with the quality and performance of these rods.

    Re: Bream rods?

Would the Bear S2 be suitable for this size reel, or is the S1 the only option?
I would like to think the S2 may be a more versatile rod as it seems suited to slightly bigger fish than the S1, but if the 1000 is too small for it, I could rule out that option.
I think the egrell rods sound great, and aussie made too

    Re: Bream rods?

My Egrell S2 is match with a 2008 Luvias 2000 which is quite a small 2000 size reel, (compared to my 2000 calidia kix anyway...)

I don't think there would be a problem with a 1000 on the S2, Just a matter of taking the reel with you and trying it on both rods.

I bought the S2 for a little more versatility.

    Re: Bream rods?

Your best bet is to E mail Eric at Egrell and ask the man himself.
I have never met him but have spoken via e mail, send him a detailed e mail of what reel, line and purpose you intend using the rod for and he will let you know. He has always been speedy on the reply to e mails

    Re: Bream rods?

I own an egrell s2, but i closed the car door on it two nights ago. I now own half of a s2.

Do you know if they have any sort of xpeditor warranty like loomis??? i'm dreading the fact that little lapse in concentration cost me $$$.

I have felt that the s2 with the 1000 stella is a little bit unbalanced. It seems to feel much better with the 2500 size reel. I also have an S10, but it stays on the rod shelf at home most of the time.

Is there any other brands apart from egrell that do a good job????

Have a look at the Egrell website. The warranty details are on there.

    Re: Bream rods?

I would reccomend a pflueger bream specialist... cork handles, looks great, very good rod and can be used for bass as well... It has those grips with the 3 bits of cork (got no idea what there called)... But it looks awesome...

    hope this helps
    cheers barra

    Re: Bream rods?

I use an S2 with a 2000 certate for squire/snapper and wouldnt fit a 1000 on it. There is also the s1-7 which would be closer.

My preference for ultralight is a smith bayliner. If you need more power in the tip look at diawa battler sparrow or longcast special. Plenty of good options

    Re: Bream rods?

I can vouch for the TD Battler Sparrow, great light rod with plenty of balls when needed. I use this for small hardbodies and SP's to 1/8oz ... good fun on squire I thought about selling it but just can't bring myself let it go.

    Re: Bream rods?

Depends on how much you want to spend? I would highly recomend a GLX sr842 but they are a bit pricy. I also own a dsr820 and its a great rod for plastics. i havent used any E-grells but they seem to be getting pretty good coverage here so thats gota say something.
