Monday Forecast held, and was able to get the boat back on the water, along with every other boat in Qld, Mooloolaba ramp was packed.
Christened a new deckie as the regular deckie had prior committments. Launched around 5:00am for a good run down to Currimundi for very little action, just couldnt get onto the fish. So headed for the Fairway area and ended up with a nice feed.
The fish must have been starving, as I caught a 40+cm Snapper on a fish skin bait jig - gently gently was the go. When I got him close to the boat, I could see one of those tiny hooks just in his lip, so I hypnotised him and he jumped into the net all by himself. Ended up drifting into a patch of foam about half the size of a football field, and thats where the mackerel was hiding. I definately know he was starving as he had zilch in his gut. Might have accounted for his easy capture, as after one blistering run it was all myway.
The new deckie put in a supreme effort and has left me lasting memories when he tried to pour a cup of tea from his thermos in a 2m+ swell All in all a great day and good to be back on the water.
