    hinze dam parking

    Hi all,

does anyone know how hard it is to reverse a boat trailer back up the track that goes to the western boat ramp because some lazy people( you know who you are) cant park adjacent to the road and make it impossible to turn around.

some do the right thing bvut we need to share as this is going to be the case for the next couple of years until construction is done.

PLEASE DONT PARK IN THE TURNING BAY AT THE WESTERN BOAT RAMP

    Cheers all

Was at both ramps on the weekend on Saturday cars parked in the turning area on eastern ramp. You can still launch if you have a fourby but its hopeless if you have 2wd so you have to reverse up hill to turn around and reverse back down.
On sunday western ramp turning ares was terrible even had a long tray truck in the turning area and a cute and trailer parked on the side of the ramp really felt like collecting some tyre valves. We were able to turn after bouncing someones trailer sideways. And doing a 14 point turn.Felt like pushing it into the drink.
The rangers came for a drive down around lunch time had a look and turned around.
    Cheers

    Hey guys,
The GC City Council need to erect a sign forbidding parking in the turning area .Untill that happens, inconciderate knuckleheads will continue blocking that area with thier cars and trailers - I guarantee it.

When i headed in at 9am as i had to work at 10am, 3 people had parked like tools! The first was the commodore wagon parked in the turning bay, The second was the blue falcon who boxed me in with my trailer & the 3rd was the 4wd who had parked half on the boat ramp 2metres from the water!!!

learn to drive & remember walking won't kill you!

    Hey Cammo79,
Its a strange phenomenon when people wont walk 50 metres, you often see this odd behaviour at shopping centre carparks when people drive around for 30 minutes looking to park as close as possible to exits/entry , then they spent 3 hours walking about inside looking at shops - very odd indeed

    Hey Guys,
I have to agree- there are some absolute boneheads out there- hows the guys fishing on the ramps at the Eastern arm? You swing around, de- rig and they just sit there and look at you funny. If only they stuck to one side of the ramp they would be right, but they spread out and take up as much room as one person can possible manage.

I agree some signs need to be put up. Heck Ill even make some up and erect them.

You all honestly think signs will make any difference...the people who do all the things mentioned obviously have no common sence, so what makes you think they have the aptitude to read (and comprehend) a sign.

    Re: hinze dam parking

Boys I have a feeling those who park in the turn around areas do not read Ausfish.

It can and will spoil any planned trip because with the Western ramp, given the condition of the road and distance, it would be almost impossible to back your boat down. What were the number of cars/boats like @ the Western ramp on the W/E?

I am very hesitant in going to fish Hinze this w/e given the current lack of space at the ramps due to the water level.

    Regards

Probably around a dozen as Steve Wilkes had a group there. I think there was 5 cars in his group. There wasnt room for Steve to turn around and they had to portage all his boats and canoes to and from the water. Just when he was ready to leave one of the cars that were parked in the turning area left and that saved him from having to reverse his rig up the hill. He was not impressed with the prospect.

Work on a new ramp on the western arm is due to start in March/April this year and should be open around May, according to the Hinze Dam Alliance. They are now the responsible authority for Hinze Dam, not Gold Coast City Council, GCCC are part of the Alliance but the major players are the State Government and the construction companies (remember last year, Pete the Beat stole the dam from GC council and residents?). The new ramp will have parking for around 20 cars and trailers and a double ramp. Also toilets etc. And it will be around half way along the Murwillumbah road so you'll have a choice of fishing down towards the wall or the upper reaches.
The ramp on the Mudgeeraba side is also slated to be replaced, relocated and made more user friendly later on.
At the minute the western ramp looks more like a flooded road!

The new ramps are going in as d-man said above...they have to really, as there wont be any ramps at the wall when the construction is finished.

When the new ramp is installed and the option becomes available to fish down towards the wall....will you be able to? With construction on the dam wall in progress, the "no boating zone" would still be in effect. Just how big of an area is the "no boating zone"?

I do know that its big enough to mean that you can not travel from the Western arm around to the Eastern Arm...But I forget where on the Western Bank the exclusion zone comes in.

There'll be a 1km radius exclusion zone around the quarry when they are blasting. The ramp on the Mudg side will be away from the construction site which will basically only be to raise the upper intake tower.
