    chickens spangles snapper and marlin

dodged the boss today and headed out with a mate off the cape for a fish in glassed out conditions. The snapper were hungry and were going hard on the nuclear chickens and what ever else we threw at em, got our limit in a couple hours and got dusted by a few big ones then the chicken got smashed by something on 9 kg gear, had to give chase as the little shimano was showing signs of the backing and the fish wasnt stopping, after another15mins a 5kg spangled emperor surfaced, tough fish.
We decided to troll some skirts on the way home, 20 mins later we were nearly asleep when the tld screamed into action, as i grabbed the rod the line went slack and i looked up to see a fully lit up marlin jump 10 feet in the air heading directly towards the boat with my lure in its mouth, then it launched again and flung the lure free before we could gun the boat. We both looked at each other stunned as it was the biggest thing we had ever hooked, a rough guess was around the 100 kilo mark at least. nothing else for the day, but one of the most action packed days of fishing for a while.
    cheers

Nice catch of fish. The spangle would have been a tough customer on light gear.

There is a fine line between fishing and just standing on the shore like an idiot

I wonder how much deeper the ocean would be without sponges

Well that had to be a better day then laying storm water pipes I'd say.
Well done on hooking the big fella.
I bet you'll never get the image of it jumping out of your mind for a bloody long time.
When it was jumping was it like slow motion??

It's a shame the marlin you hooked decided to swim you way and spat the hooks.
Was is a single hook or two? I know there is much debate on one or two hook rigs but you'd be amazed how often that second one swings around and hooks in on the initial strike, especially as bills will smack the lure a few times if they feel like it.
