Question Paluma Shoals 19th Jan 2007

    Hello All

Went for a trip to Paluma Shoals today

on the water at 530, was fantastic conditions.. unbelieveable.. got to the spot without any dramas...

When we were fishing into our berley trail we were getting some serious bites and on many occasions we would hook onto solid fish but be dragged straight into the coral..

what I ended up doing was put a full pillie on gangs out the back of the berley trail, and free spooled it.. I counted three seconds upon a strike then striked the fish to a hook up but with a few seconds the fish was off.. on other occasions I hooked straight into the fish aggressively to deter the fish from the coral to no avail..

I was wondering if anyone could fill me in on which species this may have been and a preferred method for the fishing of these species if they are worthy (not eels or rays

All in all we got back early arvo and had a fantastic day none the less.. beautiful on the water..

    thanks for listening

    Dan

    Good day
The one of fish that will bust you off like that is a giant trevally
next time try fishing with poppers
put some heavy line on your reel, crank up your drag and hold on tight

    thanks buddy.

I really didnt think GT's but it makes sense.. I was thinking cod or trout... but I recall the fish making a run... so you may be on the money.. there was plenty of sea life out and about on the water along the way, dolphins, turtles and rays.
