    Cross Wrap tool

Anybody got a spare tool for marking out cross wrap they want to part with for a fair price?
    Something like this http://shop.mudhole.com/Shop-Our-Cat...Alignment-Tool

Don't really feel like paying the $25 postage & don't need anything from them at the moment.

    pm me if so, thanks

happy to lend yousome masking tape mate...might be a tad cheeper !

i tape around the blank with 1 fullwrap above and behind the aread to be wrapped, mark where the tape crosses, remove the tape, measure the distance alng the tape bwtween the marks and divide it by 4, again mark out 4 sectiopns on the tape and stck it back on the blank starting inline with teh grove of the reel seat (easy to see) then with a long ruler, you line up the 4 marks on the 2 pieces of tape (top and bottom) and draw a line aling, this gives you the exact 0,90, 180, 270 & back to 360 deg. then simply mark along the lnes at the intervals you want to crass and you have as close to perfect mark up as manually possible !

How do you allow for the taper when doing a closed wrap???

    Re: Cross Wrap tool

i tend to avoid doing closed wraps on anything with a massive taper...the only real way i know how to compensate is to lengthen the distance between the cross points slighly as you travel down the blank thus preventing the thread over crowding @ the end of the wrap...the tape idea is simply to give you as close to an exact axis to start the wrap...

    Re: Cross Wrap tool

this is what i used for basic buttwraps.
get a pce of an old blank, cut in half lengthways. make marks at even spaces along the centre, allowing that every 2nd one will be on the back of the blank. drill these out with a small drill bit. place on blank & mark through the drilled holes with a paint pen or some water based marker pencil, do same on back of blank using the alternate holes. all done & only takes seconds once tool is made. do a couple in diff sizes.
i have used it on closed wraps without too many problems where the taper is only small.
its brilliant for most diamonds & chevron patterns..
