    Shimano Technium repair help please

Hi all you rod experts out there:

Yep thought i'd sweeten you up first before an interesting question about repairing my rod.

First, im from the Redlands south of Brisbane, but have re-located temporally to the west coast of France (since april 2007). After little while here, i realised i could fish for the local sportfish ''le bar'' or otherwise known as in english as Seabass.

So i bought a way overpriced yet beautiful rod from the local tackle shop. Its a Shimano Technium DF AX 270H. I had only used it a few times before it was broken accidentally in a mates car. In fact he slid the seat back and the rod was on a bad angle and in the wrong place and it broke the male part of the join.

Otherwise, its still a fantastic, like new 6month old, 2 piece that can't be used...

I took it back to the shop where i bought it and he called the shimano reps in France and they said because it was broken by accident they couldnt replace it and also said its virtually inpossible to repair because the male part of the join is glued in place..

Sorry for all the details but the question is: do i put it in the bin or try and repair it??

The obvious answer is repair, but having said that i have virtually no tools here and i'm in France, far away from my garage in OZ and reputable rod repairers are very rare in this part of France and even less likely that they will speak English!!

I can send photos if needed, but dont have any right now.

Thanks for your help and advice in advance.

it is probably possible to put an insert into the broken section & make it usable..
it would require a fair bit of fiddling & would never fit properly again, also a flat spot over the repaired section..
as i cannot see the end am assuming it's hollow & can have a sleeve fitted.

what i would probably do was do an insert with lots of 24hr araldite, i would then tightly tape the outside of the repair until glue sets. when dry i would remove tape & sand back the ferrule until it fits back into female section, this is where your probs will be as it will not be an exact fit., do the best you can, then when you use it, bung a bit of electrical tape over join to hold it together when casting & use it as a visitors rod..it may still be ok for you to use as well, but it beats throwing it in the bin..

I would take the end off the male section and paint epoxy glue into the internal damaged area then paint the whole male exterior getting well into the broken area. Put a bit more glue into the female end and put it together. You will have a permanent join but it should be pretty strong.

Thanks to the DR and the Horse!

I would probably tried the repair myself maybe the slightly simpler version posted by horse, with my personal touch

But in fact i got lucky last week, some very good PR for Shimano France anyway. I went back to the place of purchase to look at some other new rods with my girlfriend and we were talking to the owner a bit and he mentioned to come back on Thursday with my broken rod as a shimano rep was comming in.

Cut a long story short, he looked at it for 5 seconds and said, OK we will replace it!! Boy was i happy. I think he admired our honesty in saying i broke it accidently and not making up some shitty story about a big fish that broke it hehehe

So i have to wait until next weekend for the newie!!

Thqnks again to the keeness of Ausfishers to help out!
