i was staying down at the tweed for a week in december and did quite abit of soft plastic fishing, caught quite alot, including a few firsts, and this was deffenetly one of them, anyone 100% sure on what this is? Its a juvenile blue cod (Epinephelus cyanopodus) also refered to as a Blue Maori Cod, Cattle Dog Cod. As they grow they lose that bright blue colouration and become slightly more dull. Heres a pic of one when there a bit larger ...foxy

Thats a doozie of a maori cod in the pic.
I catch them occasionally up here though none of that size.
How big was that one and how big do they get?
He looks like he is getting to the size of developing that fat cod gut(the fish I mean).
Also interesting to see that they have such a wide range.
