HA HA HA - All they will know is that I caught one there once, many moons ago and I was so drunk I probably couldn't find the spot again.

    Sorry about the thread hi-jack.

About the prawns, I have been told 3 days after the full moon is the go for chasing them. Can anyone confirm or refute?

    Re: Prawning

    Hello Ausmembers

Coming from and asian/vietnamese background, i wouldnt have the slightest idea how they understand the concept or know when the prawns are active, or when they are coming out.
However, look forward to this year cause from my experience being around them i've learnt 1 or 2 things.
Last year wasnt considered the best season for prawns, but there out there. Alot of little small prawns were caught, unfortunately there werent many big ones. Family friend who knows his prawning said, there wasnt as many much rain this year compared to last year (2006), and he explain how the rains works, and how it affected to prawning activities, and why there were much more little prawns compared to the bigger prawns.
So hopefully his theory is right, and how this year prawning season is different to last year.

All the best and will inform you where and when the prawns are active
    Cheer Tri

Hello baitwaster, Looks like you have quite a few responses, each will have a different cast technique and I'm sure they all work, you just need to be able to do one that's comfortable for you to do. It's a twist and drop method as opposed to twist and chuck method. Peter. Thanks for your pm. I sent one to you earlier.

    Re: Prawning

Best time is around Easter out from shorncliffe all the Bananas are in breeding mode and can be found on a good depth sounder, you do have to infiltrate the Asian Navy ( not racist, thats what they call themselves) they know me well from years ago in the old seafarer always a game of cat and mouse (thats another story) not unusual to get 100gram prawn thats 10 to the kilo!!! and as long as a stubbie, I haven't done the Easter season for about 3 years it is still very productive, out of that season pine river is good, but you have to up the upper reaches past deep water bend where the river narrows a bit, you will get them all year round, enjoy!!!

Thanks for your comments, I know what you mean about the Asian Navy, yellow raincoats everywhere. I hope baitwaster is keeping an eye on this page too. This spot up past deepwater bend. What depth is it.? I'll need to get extra rope no doubt. Peter

Prawing in a group is actually an art. The idea is to locate them b4 that scatter. Once they scatter you will have enough boats to locate them. If ya prawining make sure you get a net with a top pocket and heavy lead. Thats the difference between you catching 2 anf the other bloke catching 10. As for throwing there are heaps of methods. The method i like is two people holding one net and throwing it, thats a classic Prawns should be in the logan river, redland bay area b4 they arrive in redcliff area.
