Quick tweed report with bonus pb for co pilot
Just a quick report from the last few nights fishing the tweed, went to one of my regular tweed haunts for a quick session to test out my new drop shot, second cast in, i was on nothing huge but solid, a brief tussle later and a flatty just over 40 came to the surface, i beached him, quick photo and back in the drink, a few more casts, slowly worked it into deeper water, when i had another solid hookup, this one was a lot more lively, and managed to get to some dangerous territory, but he was soon subdued and another one only a fraction larger then the first was set up for a quick photo and released. it went quiet for the next half an hour, but that could of been in part to the fact i was alternating plastics pretty quickly, testing out how they swim, and prospecting for different species, and just as i was about to head home i decided for the infamous one last cast, sent the placcy just about bouncing off the beach, then slowly worked it back out deeper twitch, pause twitch then bang, solid hit and run, felt bigger all the way to the surface, a lean 47cm was soon landed. i then decided to call it a night, i took my daughter and nephew fishing Friday night up at throwers, using prawns for bait, they managed to clean up on catfish, but not much else, i didn't make it out Saturday night, past a quick excursion down to the golf club to see what activity there was. but tonight, some of my mates had decided to hit the tweed again, i had to put lucy to sleep first, but was keen. so the plans were laid, they'd start at spot d i'd meet them there then we'd move to spot hy, i got there about 40 mins after they did, and was told they'd caught two flatty's just over 30cm, but nothing too huge, i loaded up a gulp yabbie, in mango ripple to see what was out there, but apart from a few tentative hits no hook ups, not helped in any small part by me grabbing a pack of 3 gm 2 heads instead of 3gm 2/0, so i switched to a garry glitter fish squidgey and sent him out, first cast, i was on... or at least i thought i was only to lose him at my feet, the blood was up, so i reset the plastic sent it out let it drop, and bang on again, few head shakes and it was spat back out, let it sit, twitch.. pause, twitch, roll, lift drop, no love, cast out again, drop bang, it was taken again, let it have a little slack, then set it hard. could feel right away this was a better fish but he was taking alot of line i was fishing 8 pound fireline with a 8 pound black magic leader, but my drag was set light because it is only a 1-3 kilo rod, i'd grabbed the wrong spool when i was setting my rod up tonight, but i soon had the flatty safely ashore, and nice 55 cm specimen was photographed and released. a few more cast into deeper water, and the squidgey had performed again, this fish was taking a lot of line though big shakes coupled with solid runs was and my line was headed into a bad place, so i put the brakes on to turn him and the rod performed beautifully, a solid 58cm lizard was soon landed. the tide turned soon after that and things went quiet, for about 20 mins the only thing that was caught was a bream just on 23cm, then lauchie hooked up, and he was just about skipping along to land it, i went down to retrieve his catch, and it was put to the brag mate test and came in at a cool 51cm, his best on plastics. stumps were pulled soon after, die to everyone needing early starts so we didn't get to spot hy, which will have to be tomorrow night.
