    Price One Tinny

Hi all, I'm thinking of getting a 10' tinny with a motor under 5hp on the back with a trailer. What do you think is a good price for one with a good running motor and a good condition trailer and tinny for a 12 year old...

    Cheers Tom

A good price is around 5-600 bucks.

But a 10 foot tinnie is to small and a less than 5 Hp is also to small.

I would look for a 12 footer and absolute min 10- 15 Hp

Yeah a 5 HP will move the boat but oh so boring waisting all that time going somewhere. And you will be flat out every where with it and lugging the motor which isn't that great for it, especially with old stale fuel.

    G'day

Anywhere between $500 and $1000, all depending on age and condition of the rig and engine.

Think of something 4hp and under if you don't want to worry about rego, and anything 6hp and under if you don't want to worry about your license (you have no choice there)

Even consider a 12' tinny with a 6hp, so when it comes time to upgrade.... dont be afraid to keep the hull and upgrade the engine.

One in the for sale section atm.

Rough As Guts, I think he's only after small HP as he's only 12..... will be pointless getting an outboard larger than a 6.

I'm old, and cranky cause I can't do anything I use to do when I was a kid. Actually probably cause of all the stupid things I did as a kid, all those injurys comming back to haunt me.

Enjoy mate., the best time of your life.

Think there is a KW in law you are allowed to drive, without getting picked on, convert that to HP and make sure any engine is rated the same or less from the manufacturers.

i bought a 10ft car topper a little while ago for $500 in GC nothing flash, trailer probably worth $250 in GC and engine price depends on what you find/condition and how young it is.

If you are going to trailer it go a couple of foot bigger -it will be worth it!!!

Go the 12' option. It will go as fast as the 10' as it will have a longer waterline for basically the same beam and weight. Look around and be ready to pounce when the right one comes up

Isn't it above planning speed you need a license regardless of HP.
Cause you can hire a house boat and don't need a license cause it's so slow.

Hi, I think a good price would be about $800 but i would really consider buying your self a bigger motor atleast 8hp

    read the bloody thread ,mate!
He's a 12 year old kid and anything above 6hp is not possible for an unlicenced driver and above 5hp(is that right, has to be registered).

    Re: Price One Tinny

    Above 4hp needs registration.
    Above 6hp needs license.
    (QLD Laws)

    I recently paid $950 for a 3.4m fibreglass dinghy, 5hp Suzuki and a home-made trailer.

    G'day

I do believe there's a horsepower and speed limit on unlicensed drivers.... hence 6hp and 10kts, may explain the houseboats to an extent

    Re: Price One Tinny

I guess the tinny I have for sale is out of the question. lol
$3000 gets you a 13ft. Tinny with a 25hp Tohatsu that has been clocked on the water doing 60klms per hour.
Good luck with your first boat young fella. I know you will just love the freedom of being able to sit on the water chasing the fish. I wish that I had the same desire to get a boat when I was younger. I often found myself fishing the banks not catching a thing and thinking "Wish I had a boat!" Go for it. You will never regret making that decision.

    Poodroo
