    Shark Fishing

If anyone is keen to catch Sharks Peel is a good place to start. Boated a 3 footer on plastics and lost 3 small Squire to Sharks. Awesome fun on light line, they dont give up

if you catch a shark on a lure, do ya still use wire? or does the back hooks or where ever its hooked, keep their teeth away from your leader?if bait fishing use livies or slabs?baloon or let it sink?tried for some today in the brissy river, only got 2 catfish....bugger

here's a hint.... use strong mono... 40lb jenkai.. you may get the odd biteoff, but more often than not you land the shark and it's a lot cheaper losing 1 hook if they swallow it than losing a whole wire trace or mutilating the shark trying to get the hook out..

Rule of thumb, if seriously targetting sharks - Use same length of wire as the largest shark your likely to catch....Reason being - They tend to roll when hooked, and there skin will rub through mono reall quick. If your only river fishing, majority of the sharks you'll ecounter are relatively small....so you "could" get away with heavy mono.

Bait fishing - I find livies better (Specially trevs+tailor....they generate a LOT of commotion, which attracts predators)....slabs will also work, as long as it's "fishy"(mackerel/mullet etc). Balooning I always use a little weight.

Another tip: Make sure you keep a good burley trail running.

    Good Luck!

I wouldnt be using lures to catch sharks, IMO they only hit Gulps because of the stink. Live, fresh bait and plenty of Burley fished on the bottom, only bad think is you might bag a snapper as a by catch if you are fishing Peel for Sharks ( just hang on to it and I will grab it off you ). yep a heavy leader too

have never eaten them (on purpose, like cat) but am willing to try.....i just have trouble getting past the ammonia stink when they come on board.....but bonless fillets sound bloody good!

That one I got wouldnt fit in my ice well plus I didnt really want it on board. A mate said to me to cut the tail off, fins, gut them and bleed them well and they are not bad on the chew
