    fishkill in the flood

Went out yesterday just to inspect the damage on the Logan river and of course cast net some prawns that stuck by in flood waters in the shallows.Sadly there is thousand and thousands of fish were flotaing belly up everywhere we went.Including a bullshark about 1.5 metres well over a dozen huge flattie, cods.Thousands of poddys and herrings. It was a sad site .The prawns we found were dead too,not like 3 days ago when we filled up a 67 litre esky to the rim.Yes i know thats what the system needed ,a good flushing .Disheartening site neverthless.
    cheers

8 to be precise ,with 4 boats .Must you pick on everything?By the way 8 of us could legally catch 80 litres.we only take 1 esky since its never filled up before and we always get out together 1-2 times a year for prawning only, working the same area.Posession limit could be questioned as it was before, once all the prawns are in 1 boat .

Posession limit would be questioned, and you would be fined for having way over the limit in one boat.

Any serious construction going on around that area? Might be a good idea to report it to the local fisheries authority, and get them to investigate it. If a developer hasnt dealt with their acid sulphate soils properly, they can be in for a big fine.

There may not be any recent excavations.

Acid sulphate problems will linger for many years after the soil disturbance has occured.

    Re: fishkill in the flood

So is that over the limit for Prawns?

If so, I know it's wrong to do that, but sometimes I also reckon that the impact the average fishman throwing a cast net for prawns as apposed to the devastation of a Prawning Trawler is minimal.
