ugly stiks

whats the story with ugly stiks these days? it used to be (as far as i know) an ugly stik was an ugly stik. now ive seen all these different types ie. ugly stik platinum, gold, etc. i was told it was something to do with the guides, any one know more???

Basically, the more you pay the better the blank/hardware.
Still IMHO a good option for what they are, ie a cheapish mass produced rod, in that they are quite durable, stand up well to boat use/abuse!
Personally I prefer the Gold or Black Tiger range over the cheaper Sapphire or Platinum, tho' they are all out of China these days, I suspect. Some of the more expensive series look very nice rods indeed.
FTA still has the odd old 'made in Aus' unit (best of the breed) amongst the racks tho' last I looked I could only find one, unfortunately didn't have the spare $$$ at the time to buy it!
