    awoonga dec 30/to 5jan

the little lady and myself did a trip up thru cania gorge onto awoonga this week our targets were bass and barra, cania produced some good fish over a couple of days but wasnt its usual self so onto awoonga.we arrived in the afternoon to hear of the shitty weather down in the hervey bay area where we come from ,we were blessed as the low stayed away and we had plenty of windows of great weather to fish in.first arvo we flicked the edges with no result so onto trolling and i picked up a nice barra going 780mm.next morning we headed for a little area we found with good soundings on the sounder the night before first troll the wife conn ected to a good fish this stayed low in the colum and didnt jump on popping to the surface it was over the metre going 1015mmher pb we only fished a 3 hour session as it was getting blowy, the arvo session stared in the shallows in around 13ft of water i flicked for a while with classics but no good ,then trolled the same spot ith 2 good fish being landed a 750mm and 910mm the bigger fish jumping all over the place.next spot was on the ledges near the boyne entrrance it only took one troll and i was hit by a freight train, lots of line was lost and some tense moments until she slid into the net my pb going 1130mm and 60lb.next morn was onto the same area and it was the little ladies turn another big fish and lots of big runs into the net and an upgrade for her as it went 1100mm and 55lb,i fished 3 more sessions for 5 more barra of various sizes and 3 catfish all in all a great way to finish and start a new year.pics will come if i can work outthis silly way of down loading them onto this site

Warrier, thanks for the report. I can't wait for my next trip back to Awoonga and its great to hear stories of the fish being caught there. Sounds like you got some great fish and always good to break your PB. How hot was it on the water during the day? And what sort of lures were working the best for you?
For downloading the photos go to the the help section at the end of the chatboards section and read the instructions there.
    cheers

Hey Al, at least it's a lot easier to upload the photos when your digital camera isn't at the bottom of Awoonga Dam.
    Cheers

RC the days were ok we didnt fish thru them as we had morning and arvo sessions but there as wind blowing gently with the odd gust that made it comfortable the lures we used were drop bears in the squidgy range halco crazy deeps in purples and chromes classics in all colors, the big fish came out of all depths also no set patten ,a couple of other mates found the same results
