Anybody fished it since the rain? The TV gave it a big plus, but is it worth the trip yet?

There is a pretty big fish kill going on out there.
It had been fishing really well up to the rain, but the inflow triggered a die off.

It will take a few months before things settle down and they come back on the chew.

hey pumba did many bass yellas or cod die. because of this kill will the fish go off in the next few weeks. cheers bdowdy,,brett

On the TV report they mentioned carp. I didn't know that there were any carp in there. But they also showed some huge yellows, eels and what looked like tilapia, however they could have been bass because I don't think there are tilapia in there yet. The picture wasn't all that clear.

In a recent TV report they mentioned the big bass that were being caught there. I reckon the report was two weeks out of date. I went just as the rain started and it was un=fishable due to the high wind and the colour of the water. (Not to mention the lightning. )

Good news is that a tinny can now be launched from the ramp.

Water level has reached 14% today.
Fish kill has not included a lot of bass.
Water quality has improved heaps ( better than it was before the 1st inflow @ 2.5%) with sediment and last fish carcass's settling on the bottom.
I was out there on the water 2 days into the fish kill & there were still a lot of fish on the sounder.

To give an idea of 14% the water is a couple of feet below the concrete boat ramp and still rising slowly.

No reports yet on how well it is fishing though there were people fishing it today.

Maroon is @ 45% & rising

Hi Brett

Very easy to get in and out of the water from the ramp. Lake full of rubbish and there are logs everywhere. Not dangerous, but trolling is impossible.

I gave up after 90 mins and moved on to Maroon. Similar conditions, in parts, but at least I caught three small bass in the same time frame.

I think Moogerah will be better in a couple of weeks when it settles down a bit. I could not find the fish on the sounder due to the rubbish on the screen.

Same as wrip 109 for Moogerah today and we also went over to Maroon.

Thought you guys should see some photos of the boat ramp area taken today.The water against the ramp for 40 or so metres out was just a jamb of logs and debis. This was so thick there was a cormorant in it's death throes stuck in the middle unable to free itself.

Someone had a boat in the water as there was a trailer on the ramp parking area and a trail evident through the debris. I wouldn't put my engine through that though, reckon you would have a good chance of blocked inlets !

Has anyone wet a line at Moogarah since the rain and is it still possible to launch a tinnie? What is the bst method of catching a Cod? Trolling, casting? And what depth is the lake and is there much structure?

It's still rising but it goes from 50/60 feet near the dam wall to 10 feet by the trees. Still lots of rubbish in the water.

The ramp is open and it is easy to get a tinny launched.

Don't know about cod - I have fished Moogerah for years and only landed one cod which was about 1 foot long. The dam is mainly for yellowbelly and bass which are prolific when the time is right.

I didn't risk it this week and went to Somerset(Caught heaps of bass in the early 30's) Will try Moogerah one day next week. Everything being equal, It is very much my favourite fishing hole.
