With nothing else to do lateley I've been checking through my 535 Yalta. When I unscrewed one of the inspection plates ( the one at the rear) it appeared to be badly corroded or affected by electrolosis. This appeared to be the sender unit from the fuel tank, it appeared to me to have an aluminium cover on it ( it may have been stainless but I'm sure it was alum.) it had two brass posts/poles coming up from the unit with the wiring lugs secured to the posts with brass nuts. The whole area around the connections was badly corroded. We all know what happens when aluminium and dissimilar metals are joined especially when there is saltwater and an electric current present. It may be worthwhile for any Yalta 535 or 555 owners out there to have a look and tell me if that cover plate on the unit is alum or stainless. I've since cleaned it all up and smeared a non conducting electrical grease over the area.

cant help other than with metal identification. Grab a 10c coin or carkey etc and try and scratch the metal. If its ally, you will be able to make a reasonable gouge in it, where as if its stainless it will be lucky to leave a small scratch.
