laceys creek 4x4 track.
Hey.
A while ago I went for a drive out past dayboro on laceys creek road and I found a dirt track. I followed it to the end and found the entrance to a 4x4 track that was in the state forrest. I am thinking about going back out there soon but I cannot remember what it was called so I dont know what if any permit I need to get. I though it might have been mt mee but after reading some directions to Mt mee I dont think it is because to get there you have to go through woodford on a totally different road. Can anyone shed some light on this for me.
Thanks

Re: laceys creek 4x4 track.
Thats a track from the famous 'Dirty Weekends in SE Queensland' book. Great track close to brisbane. Takes you out to woodford via mt mee and contains the infamous a-break which appears to be quite tame these days albeit quite steep. Its not a bad trip and highly recommended.
The maps you would need for this are Laceys Creek and Mount Byron (9443-41 and 9443-42). Both have the major tracks on them and appear to be reasonably accurate. If you cant find the maps there is a place in brisbane sells them, yell out if you need the details. BTW, when buying maps always get the line maps not the topo image maps, the latter are crap and are real hard to read IMO.

Yep that would be mount mee. You can access it though there where you were as well. You will need a permit from the EPA website I think.
Some pretty good tracks up through there.

EPA dont require permits up there anymore. I think the only place you still need an permit is for Fraser and redland bay shire for straddie.

I remember doing the a-break some years ago after torrential rains. The climb was very steeply rutted and a number of very large rocks/boulders were exposed. I made it up in my 02 discovery in second gear low range, with some bouncing around and a lot of spin. There were other major brands there too - of different years - and some did and some didnt make it. I had a mate in an MU that "made" it but broke a tie rod taking the same line that I did...nice...gota love IFS.

Went up A break a couple of weekends back, just a sunday drive now.
All tho, after this week/weekend it might be a bit more fun

As you drive along laceys creek road on the left you find wirth road on your right,if you turn here it will become may creek road and take you straight into the forestry and is the most direct way up the mountain here.
If you continue straight along laceys creek road eventually you reach a t intersection at the end, turn right and just follow it into the state forest, this is the long and more scenic route, not at all challenging and a bit rough in places but still can be very scenic.
Either way as you head north there are a myriad of tracks leading off some of them go nowhere and some end up in interesting places,i have travelled most of them at some stage.
Jacky creek road is a little steep in places in fact the steepest climb I have found in this forest is in there you will just have to find it.
The wife refused to stay in the car and the dashmat landed in the back seat but the lux climbed it no worries(I do have lockers)
The mount mee state forest is huge and you could spend a week in there and not see all of the tracks but the fun is getting out there and looking around.
No you no longer require a permit, just a registered vehicle and a current driers licence(Same as most state forest areas in southeast.)
I have topo map 9443-42,the track markings were crap but we filled them in with a fine felt tipped pen, took hours, plus we have added tracks that dont appear on the map.
Maps are available from allmaps on southpine road at alderleyph 38562899
I hope this info is helpful
Cheers Craig
