Buy a $15 shrimp trap, every tackle store has them.
Throw in some meat, fish frames ,even KFC might work and dump it for a few hours around some weed beds in a creek or impoundment. It that doesnt work I will be very surprised. cheers99

Although $30 seems a little exy for bait, believe me its probably worth it.
Might pay you to setup a small fish tank and keep the shrimp in it (well oxygenated) and get a couple of sessions out of them.

In relation to your original question, you can catch them as said in a shrimp trap.
They are in hinze and I have trapped them before, The trick is to position the trap right in a weed bed and leave overnight. Put the trap anywhere other than that and you wont get any. I did an experiment up there a couple of years ago in to which areas the shrimp are most common and the weeds won hands down. What i was doing was going out sat arvo and setting the traps before returning the next morning to fish. For me it wasnt soo bad as i was on a kayak, but if you were to launch a boat drive around to weed areas and set the pots before going back bringing the boat in etc etc etc it might get a bit much....thus why i reckon the $30 is probably well spent.

another little tip we learned back home in SA when fishing for yellas in the Murray is that Soap is the best shrimp bait hands down. Sue we caught em on everything else but a normal bar of soap (i know sounds weird) was the best.

    Hope that helps a bit.

Good luck im sure you will clean up with the shrimp.
I see the charter guys up there everytime i fish and they are pulling in fish every cast kinda thing. Just anchor up of any point in the dam and you will have a ball.

Ben that is why I buy them I live at Redland Bay and while there are a few in Leslie Harrison Dam it is illegal to trap them there and you usually only get 6 or so out of 4 pots it simply isnt worth the 15k drive each way.
The only other places nearby are up past beenleigh fr in the brisbane river up past colledges crossing so taking into concideration the fuel costs it is cheaper for me to buy them. I buy 200 at a time and they keep in a tank for 3 weeks ok.

Just a quick question, Would that be up near the Allawa Rd Wier? Because I have fished the tail of the Brissy River for about 7 or so years now, and I have never been able to find a good shrimp spot yet, unless I go to Kholo bridge first.
