Re: What Binoculars do you use?
i looked at a lot and went with australian geographic binocluars. cheaper than others and just as good.
7x35w 420ft at 1000yrds. you dont want any stronger as you cant see anything clearly with the rocking of the boat with higher magnification.
they've been in their carry case in my boat out in all weather for 2 yrs. look the same as when i bought them. keep them in a blue rubber based tool bag bought at bunnings along with all my other gear. great buy.
anyway I did a total schoolboy and ran out of fuel the first time i went out in my newly purchased boat. drifted onto a sandbank. i called up the tower at the spit and said i could see the rescue boat 100-150m away towing some big boat off another sand bank. could they come over and help me after.
the guy says whats the vmr boats markings on the side so he knows who to call. um..! couldnt read it at that distance.
i was thinking.. so thats why i need binoculars, sh!t!
this why you want the beacon to beacon too. got all the emergency numbers in it for every location.
oh yeah, i think the binoculars would be splash proof or fine in the rain and spray but i wouldnt drop em in salt water to see what happens
