Just having a little trouble removing the steering assembly from my motor. Will be replacing it with a Non feedback kit, whats the trick to removing the old steering rod and cable. The old bull horn has broken and the steering has gone stiff. As the boat has sat for a bit whilst not in use.

I just replaced the telescopic steering cable on my Johnson 120hp. I removed the cable from the steering helm first by removing the cable locking bolt then just turning the wheel. I then undid the large cable nut on the right hand side of the motor. After removing the link rod I then used a hammer and 1/2" bolt to drive out the main shaft through the tube. I also used a roller shaft and lots of lubricant and some twisting action with vise grips. I then cleaned the tube out with a large round file. To have a new steering cable after 30 years of stickiness feels great. Good luck.
