went out to lenthalls for a chrissy day fish as we are orphans up here as our famalies are down south. used a variety of lures ,got a solid fish on a surface tango dancer this way has to be one of the best ways to target bass.the little lady landed a couple of fish on jackalls and i got a few on them as well all in all a nice morning on the water pity the wind drove us off.

Gator and Angler1, i went to lenthall's on sunday the 23rd of December and all i could manage was bass. We used to go there last year and clean up on barra, landed roughly 10 a day, we tried all thge old haunts and all the tricks and couldn't get a barra if i paid for one.

Now the dam has been cleared i feel it doesn't have the same appeal to me any more, now there is hardly any lillypads on the edge's and stuff all tress on the edge to cast into the shadows. I dont know if this has changed the barra in any way but it certainly doesn't look as nice.

    BIG UNIT,
in the southern arm of the dam, there is that little island that has like a mote around it. How did they clear that seems its surounded by water? now this is just my opinion but im pretty sure the buldozers i saw at the dam doing the clearing last year certainly didn't have giant floaties on them.......

    Cheers Thomas.

I think maybe the fish kill (mainly Barra) last year has effected the stocks significantly, provided all goes to plan the lot they stocked late last year should be ok to catch towards the end of this year until then it looks like Bassin in lenthalls.

yes bomber i think your on the money ,the fish stocking boys estimate that at least 4500 to 5000 barra died in the winter kill and amongst them was a couple of fish over the metre mark this dam was a beauty for bass and barra i hope it gets back to its old self quickly.here are the last barra we got out of the dam before the kill in feb last year

    Thomas,
Im thinking you mean the Northern arm of the dam ( junction of Duckinwilla & Woolmer Creeks ) where there is a little Island surrounded by water, the excavator did get there on a barge.

    Re: lenthalls chrissy day

    Bomber & Warrior,

There are still barra being caught at Lake Lenthall, although they are very hit & miss at the moment. In the last four weeks Ive seen around 14 killed and brought back to the boat ramp and have had other anglers tell me they caught 1, 2 or even 3, which they released. I think some people had it too good for too long and now the fishing is pretty tough they are calling it for a total kill, which is not the case. My current estimate is that about 50 barra have been caught in Lake Lenthall so far rather then the hundreds for the same period this time last year.

    Cheers

    Re: lenthalls chrissy day

It seems the dams that sufferd these fish kills have deamed dead, yes there is bass but they arn't as appealing as the barra. I have read reports from james and others about other certain dams where fish kills did take place and yes they are harder to fish and yes you have a good chance of the dreaded donut but they are still there.

On a recent trip to Monduran many a angler didn't score a fish some where there a week but is it dead or shut down nah right place at the wrong time or any number of things, thats fishin.

These dams will be restocked and reports will start flowing again fingers crossed for a few mild winters and plenty of summer rain to fill the dams right up. Lenthals is a great little impoundment lillies will grow back, trees will grow as it establishes and the facilities will be a advantage to the traverling angler, look a callide it a ordanary bit of water but i will bet when the restocked barra put on a bit of size we will all be calling it a stop again. in the mean time we must try and be positive towards the restocking and enjoy the mighty lenthals bass, with the perk of a possible barra.

    Re: lenthalls chrissy day

last year we were catching 60cm - 70cm barra, just wondering what size fish others were catching? Shame to hear people are taking barra from lenthalls, after the fish kill it needs all the help it can get. 'Life is great at Lenthalls.'
