last minute question re tyre pressure on sand

New navara, has contintal contitracs (bog standard) tyres. Manual says nothing regarding min pressure. Tried manufacturers website, nothing there either. I dont usually reduce pressure, but every time I have done indan head its been pretty chopped up and needs all the fat. I would typically let the tires down to about 20psi. I dare say the factory tires will be fine but would like to hear others opinions.

Factory tyres are fine.... 18 - 20psi. unless towing something heavy.

    Andy

I will go along with Phill, 18 -20 psi no worries as long as you don't go hard.
Take it easy and you will have no problems.

Yes, like what has been said already.
I run 20/22 in my tyres (Cooper STT's) on the beach, on the Patrol with no problems.
First time I was at Fraser during the year with these tyres, and was very surprised how such a meaty tyre performed in the soft sand. They were fantastic.
I did not try them at normal pressure on the beach, as I allways let my tyres down as soon as I hit the sand. Saves any hassels of trying to get unbogged, and I think it has to be easier on the car, but you do go through more fuel.

just like everyone else said 18 -20psi is about whats recommended for tyre pressure when driving in sand. you could probably go as low as 15 psi if really needed, however ,by decreasing pressure more than 15psi you run the risk of spinning the tyre of the rim. also you need to take it easy when running low tyre pressures, beacause tremendous fiction and heat builds up in the tyre sidewall, if your driving slowly everything will be ok, but driving at speed will create excessive heat in the tyre sidewall which can permanately damage the tyre. 99

cheers everyone. Did not let them down till I had to pull some guy out of a soft track and up the beach. Went 20psi no problem. Could probably have droped them to 15 if needed. The old navara (auto) isn't a bad beach truck!
