    Mate;

    I have been using a Scotty 1050 model that I bought from Cabelas about three years ago and have never had a problem with it. I assume that Cannon are pretty good also but I am very happy with the Scotty.

    Why? It is feature rich and very robust. Getting the lead weight included is a real bonus over buying one locally.

    Electric Scottys are the best things I have used. We had a Canon Digitroll IV with bottom following transducer which is the Rolls Royce of downriggers on the Signature but had all sorts of problems with it. I would have a hack at one again as they have all the bells and whistles but the Scotty just seems foolproof and a simple design for a good price.

    I wanted electric, extendable boom, swivel base mount and had read good reports on this Scotty model.

    hey smithy , what would be your thoughts on fitting a electric scotty to a cruise craft 625 outsider , are you going to have to drill big holes in the glass ?

    cheers

    Re: Downrigger Choice

    The two Black Watches I have used the Scotty on were mounted on a made up custom SS base to go into the rodholders. I do that with my Canon Sport Troll as well but with an alloy base.

    Re: Downrigger Choice

    Hi Splash,

    I have used Canons, Easytroll 2 mounted one on my 500 Cruisey explorer which was easy to install as across LB tank was at transom. Upgraded to a 575 outsider and have a stepback transom. Have made up a bracket that bolts on starboard side (1/4" SS)with a fibreglass backing plates with 41/2" bolts going to inside of bait tanks. Bit of mucking around with fabrication, but works well. PM me with your email and I can send extra pics
