    Hey boys,

Regarding hookup rates and the technique you described - can you expand alittle of what you meant.

Quote: "We had a poor hook-up rate for a while until a great GT fisherman told us how to set the hooks with these lures.

It's like a giant 3 or 4 sets as the fish turns on the lure"

Do you simple mean that you strike (hard & exaggerated) about 3 to 4 times once the fish has hit the lure and begins turning for cover to ensure that the hooks stick?

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

    CT,

Yep, that's exactly what we meant!

The single hooks are fat & the GT mouth is very hard.

You need to muscle a few strong sets straight after the fish has taken the lure.

You can also try another couple of hook sets when the fish is stationary in the fight, just to make sure the hooks are in.

This way you'll have a much better chance of keeping the hooks connected.

    Callum,

Yes! That 40kg Spanish Mackerel was awesome!

Here are another couple of GT which we caught on the weekend.

It was a pricey session; we lost 2 Nomad Ulua stickbaits in 10 minutes.

The GT were hitting the lures and running around coral bommies & rocks.

It was very hard to stop the fish that we got out!

These GT were caught around some boiling bait and were around 20 - 22kg.

Small fish compared to some others that we seen around them!

    Boys, some great fish again!

I was just wondering: is this GT fishing an all year round prospect and do many people around the Whitsundays target them? What is the best time of the year to chase them with a small boat around the islands? PM me if you like.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

    Caleb,

    Yep, it's all year round!

You can catch GT in the day as well as the night and any day of the year.

The best time to go out we have found is when its calm with some chop.

Very rough weather is also good for GT stickbaiting.

The GT like strong current, waves, whirlpools and any turbulent water.

Only a handfull of anglers in the Whitsundays target GT with these surface techniques.

It's is a very new & highly effective way of fishing in the Bluewater.
