Thread: Whitsunday Giants!

    Thumbs up Whitsunday Giants!

    Hi,

Here are some recent GT captures from the Whitsunday islands.

All three fish were caught on Nomad Ulua & Dogtooth surface stickbaits.

These fish are really tough to land & smash surface lures hard!

We caught these fish by working our lures around reef bommies, deep rocks & reef drop-offs, where GT hold out of the strong current.

    They really are awesome fish!

If your into this style of fishing, check out the GT Popping website.

It has great advice for popping for GT & other gamefish.

Mate, I spent weeks last xmas searching for these large GT's. I went all over the islands and we only got small stuff.

May I ask what Islands you fished around for these?

There is a fine line between fishing and just standing on the shore like an idiot

I wonder how much deeper the ocean would be without sponges

Up here we Use Hussar as baits for real RED FISHS (SHSIIFDER)

    Yeah....Awesome fish alright.

I have only managed follows from fish that size up in the whitsundays only to have them shy away at the last minute...
They are hard to entice at times.....You boys do very well.

    Hi,

The tackle that we used were 8000 Stella reels and Tcurve 10kg - 15kg rods.

The lures we used were the Nomad Ulua & Dogtooth stickbaits.

They are about 25cm long and look like a big bait kicking on the surface.

We attach large single hooks like Owner 11/0's to the 250lb split rings.

It's heavy gear but the fish are very powerful so you need it.

Here's 2 photos of the Nomad Ulua.

    CY....What braid you running....80lb...?

You using twisted leaders or prefer single mono...?

    Cheers

    Re: Whitsunday Giants!

    Hi Pete,

The braid we used is 80lb Suffix.

And the leader is single 150lb Jinkai.

Having a really thin knot is good as it doesn't rip out the guides when casting!
