Recommended Braid for Daiwa Emblem Pro 5500

    Hi Team.

Recommended braid type and breaking strain for this reel?

Pelagics (up to 15kg) spinning off boat.

Hey Splash, our paths are crossing a bit this morning :-)

Can you let us know how you get on with this? I've given up trying to get braid to lay properly on the TSS4, and was thinking about upgrading to the Daiwa. I'm just after a bit of extra distance spiining slugs on a 12' rod off the rocks and my trusty Ugly Stik for pelagics from the boat. I've done a bit of research and spoke to a few tackle shops and this is the reel being recommended as suiting both purposes.

I was going to run 20lb Platypus Super Braid, but like I say haven't tried it.

I'd love to know what you think of the reel when you try it.

    Thanks,
    Mike

    G-day mate

I've had mine for about 12 months now. I run 30Lb yellow 300yards of Tuffline. No issues with it so far! Great reel and its funny how its it appears to be the only reel catching fish when i'm in a group tossing slugs and slices etc.

    Great great reel.

Thanks Rod-Bender - that test is a perfect example of just how effective this reel appears to be!

What reels were your mates using?

Did they have the same leaders/rigs?

Why did u choose Tuffline over others?

Are there certian types/designs of braid for threadlines and then differnet types for overheads?

I am defintely going to buy one of these reels - all the info around is simply too hard to ignore!

I recommend Sunline Cast Away. It's nice and soft and if you have a look through the posts. Has the diameter of cotton.

    Hi Mate,

I do heaps of spinning for pelagics and rate Nitlon excellent braid for it.
Spool it up with 30lb nitlon and you will be a happy man.

I just got a dogfight and loaded it up with 30lb Nitlon.

BTW......The emblem pro is an excellent reel.

Hell Pete, only 30lb on a DF , you must be just playing or practicing

I second Pistol P, got Nitlon on my Certate 3500HD. Tried 40lbs but you dont fit enough line on for my liking and you cant cast as far as braid can soak up water and get heavy

Re: Recommended Braid for Daiwa Emblem Pro 5500

hows it going i have an emblem pro 5500 for about nearly 3 years and have used afew different 30lb braids (dyneema, tuff xp, platil, bionic, fins PRT) on it but the best one I found was Spectra PRT form kiwiland.I am curently surf casting 80 to90 gram slugs between 140 to160m (measured with a 100m tape on land) and the knotstrength is awsome. A mate and I did some testing on different braids same knot. The outcome was quit amazing some of the braids broke around 30lb give or take a few, others broke at near 40lb which goes to show how much drag you can put on fish with 30lb. Back to spectra PRT I now use 15,30,50 and 80lb spectra on most of my braid outfits. I recomend it. www.fishingkites.co.nz

Ifound that it is a soft braid to cast with an super strong with a bimini(18.3kg it let go ). It also doesnt want to tear the top of your finger off on casting.Other than that I just found that it cast s that little bit further. I found it difficult to beleive all the talk each manufacturer states coz they all say that there braid is the best. It cost me well over $1500 in different braids to come to my own conclusion.this is not to say other braids are bad it is only my conclusion.there are literally hundreds of different braids out there to test and try. It can be frustrating and also very interesting with the results.I will stick with spectra till I come across something better for the money and my fishing styles.
