Thread: Navman fuel transducer fix's???

    Re: Navman fuel transducer fix's???

I have the fuel flow sensor for the lowrance hooked p to my lms - 332c. Can't fault it. No real calibration when installing - just tell it the size tank you have and away you go. It has only got more accurate with fuel used each time i re-fuel and the real time usage has come down accordingly.

    FNQ,
Had similar probs with mine after servicing the filter (which was upstream & full of crap). Eventually got it going again after reverse flushing a cuople of times.
I am a bit unsure of it's current accuracy & have'nt checked it but it was pretty well spot on straight out of the box.

To reverse flush I used the hand primer to pump the fuel into a container through the sender (in reverse) about 10 litres at a time.

Thanks again for the replies, Frank I will give that a go, it's heartening that it worked for you, think I can be bothered tomorrow to fiddle with it for a while.

Mate hate to seem like I'm rubbing it in or anything, BUT...........you've unwittingly joined the club! Had similar issues with mine straight outta the box. Problems were constantly denied by dealer and NAVMAN until I managed to have the technical rep come and see for himself. Made him look like the fool he was too!

    NAVMAN on my boat.............NEVER again!

Looks like its a 50/50 chance of getting one that works. My fingers are crossed that mine is one that works, and also that the weather clears up soon so that I can actually take the boat for a water test of all this flash new gear.

    I'd say less than 50/50. I am now 0 from 4!

Ive had one for 2 years now and 2 engines, so far no problems (touch wood) I installed one for a friend, calabrated it, then he went out and it just wouldnt work. Havent had a chance to check it out yet - might be crap in it.

I have installed several of the 2100 series units and never had a failure even had them on my last 2 boats for zero problems.

I did have an instalation where the owner had bought the wrong flow sensor but the plugs fitted had us stumped for a while. got the right one and he was away.

    Re: Navman fuel transducer fix's???

I had a go at fixing it by backflushing a couple of days ago and got it working again in the backyard, then yesterday during a trip to the reef it lasted for the first 300m then conked out.

Becoming suspect that drainback through my new (but older than the Navman) genuine Yamaha primer bulb may be the culprit or implicated, the other one an el-cheapo BCF one just before the engine but after the transducer stays rock hard.

Still do not understand why it wouldn't work forward flushing until I backflushed first, couldn't have another load of crap in it...frustrating.

    cheers fnq

FNQ, do you have it mounted so the flow is vertically throught the sender??

    Re: Navman fuel transducer fix's???

Yeah Garry it's at worst 4deg off vertical directly after the filter outlet.

On the sender is the wire on the top or the bottom.... sorry just got to ask
