upon a 5.30 arrival ready for departure (and after paying a hefty deposit a week prior) we were refused our charter. They said we were requiredto notify them the night before that ew were still keen eventhough we had contacted them aswell as paying them several times in the days leading up to the charter. they said it was outlined in the paperwork (which was never received) that we were to do so. so the boat chugged out of port with another group to me and my fellow employees dismay. after watching the other group hand over the money to go on the day (even though we had already paid prior) was heart breaking. Now they say the never recieved any money even though evdence says otherwise. after speaking to some of my other fishing colleagues apparently its not the first time they've pulled something like this. WHAT A RIPOFF! paul simpson and his boys should be disgusted in themselves. My advise to anyone thinking of going out with seaview is dont. this type of should not be accepted in the fishing community and hopefully word will spread about them and there actions.

What this group of people havent said in this forum is that they where allready booked on the boat the day before. When they called and asked they said they wanted to change their day to friday instead of thursday.............. They where told no because friday was allready booked for another group so they turned up anyway......So you tell me what a load of rot and .....Their deposits where not recieved until the friday anyway..You cant just expect to change a booking of your own accord

Hey Hocka....i agree with everything being said...but Poodroo is right.....Do you have the reciepts for the monies paid????If so then you have the evidence to tackle the case further....For anybody in buisiness( specially this style) not to follow up with complaints or a stuff up in miss comunications leading to disgrunted customers and letting you walk away like that with no explanation they need to take a good look at themselves...especially involving monies paid.....very backdoorish in this world...obviously they may be like that in other aspects of thier buisiness...the crew may not be at total fault as booking problems may start at the office????....Do you remember the name of who took the booking and the deposit??????

This is very interesting.....if this is the case then Hocka has no case except to ask for monies owed to be returned if he does not want to go at a later date....still a follow up call from the parties concerned could create a better outcome????

I would expect that if there were monies owed after a booking simply changed their mind re. the day on which they wished to go out, there would be a requirement that a replacement booking be found for the day no longer being used, otherwise the charter operator is down a day's business.

    hmmm she said,he said...
Why were deposits taken on the friday if they were told no..this day was booked out?

If this is the way it happened though I think the fishing group should in fact be liable for the lost days takings from the charter operator.
Once a booking is given then it should be honoured.otherwise the operator may be down a days taking's.

    Re: seaview charter ripoff

Like many contractual problems, it is always wise to make sure arrangements and expectations are clear and solid.

I know there is a trend and desire to do things over the phone and on line, but there is no substitute for getting an arrangement documented in writing and well in advance.

there is also no substitute for looking a bloke in the eye, shaking his hand, handing over the cash and getting a recipt.

A large portion of this sort of problem come down to a failure in communication.

As a customer you should always make sure you are clear on what is going on.

As a business person you have rocks in your head if you don't make sure the customer knows exactly what is going on...... and be able to prove it.

    cheers

Who's right we don't know this is the skippers side of the story who's only on this site to advertise for free whenever possible and bags other charters running out of same place.

    You'll need documented proof Hoka.

Now there is a recipe for disaster if ever I saw one.

I have been watching Judge Judy a bit during the rainy weather and I reckon that she would look at you sitting on the side benches and say, in a very direct and loud voice, "What's it got to do with you??!!"

    Is that "doobinator" or "dobinator"?

How did you pay, by bank transfer or credit card over the phone? When did you pay?

As a paying customer, I always ask for a receipt by email or fax. I also make payment early enough to allow for bank transfers taking 2 business days. Id make the booking and get the money in at least 7 days in advance.

Had you done all this, you would have a case. iTs a hard lesson to learn. My freinds still think I am crazy for asking for everything in writing, but I dont care.

A verbal contract is not worth the paper its written on.
