The reps in the local shop told me fireline is slightly flat, its not truly round if you put it under a microscope. I wont use it any more. I now use Stren with no worries.

I now predominately use the fireline for casting lures, both sp and hardbodies, and no issues with leader knots, or any knots for that matter.

Actually I tell a lie, the only issue I have is it can be quite stiff the first couple of sessions using it, but that's it.
I have a spool of 10 pd that is ten years old easy in smoke. It's as tough today as it was then. Although it's turned grey.

Fire line is my all time favourite Gelspun line. The only time I’ve ever had it break under it’s mentioned breaking strain was when I left a well used spool un washed, I think the salt and UV may have deteriorated it. The fact that it was 4lb and had many K’s on it could also have contributed.
I use Fire line for long cast spinning and some bait fishing as it cut’s the water better. Pen Power pro Braid (Green) for jack and Barra fishing for it’s limp properties, making it better for twitching lures.
My belief is the manufactures of braid are trying to make it too thin over strength ratio, this has put me off a lot of braids as they have many inherent issues surrounding the diameter.
Braids are not all the same and have pro’s and con’s for different types of fishing, I’ve chosen mine for the fishing I do.

Yeah, i've found that thinner is not always better. And as mentioned, in this day and age with Flouro Leaders. It's not that big an issue.

Try and stick with tried and tested brands....Finns braid is probably more expensive than other brands....But there is nothing worse than loosing fish because of crap Braid....I have never had a bad batch of finns....My opinion is that Finns is the best braid on the market and the strongest....

To add what i had said earlier i also am very happy with Fins Braid, Great for casting, strong and good for knot tying.I won't go to Fireline again unless it is crystal but even then it would only be put on my lesser quality gear.
