What to look for in a rod...

Hi - well with some good advice from this forum, santa has just purchased a Shimano Charter Special for me. Being a novice I was now after some advice as to what to look for and look out for when buying a rod.

I will be mostly using it for bottom bashing and a bit of trolling hopefully up around the 15 - 20kg mark.

    Any help much appreciated.

    G'day Simo,

If I can offer one piece of advice, make sure its a one piece rod. Reading that back sounds stupid now but oh well you'll know what I mean.

    Cheers

I have found a 10-15kg is good for 90% of the time I have just put my charter special on a silstar crystal blue jig rod and it all worked well out at the reef a couple of weeks ago. I only use it as a spare and a loaner but it does get a bit of work.

Pretty much agree, but when you get too tournament class rods. 2 Piece makes bugger all difference. The 2 piece shimano 2-4 kg Tcurves are gold.
