Thread: Which GLOOMIS ROD?

    Re: Which GLOOMIS ROD?

    Howdy Assassin,
I'm interested, what made you choose that rod. similar reasons? It doesn't seem to be a very common purchase
I purchased from what I was told by the Loomis rep at the time to be the first shipment of CBR's into the country. He also told me that I just bought the first 781 he had sold.

I was Flathead mad at the time,And was into both casting the flats,And trolling the dropoff's and drains. It was also at this time I was getting right into braided lines.

My fast tapered graphite Sabers were excellent when using mono,But put braid over it,And remove the stretch from the equasion,And the results were hooks being pulled left,Right,And centre.

I began making my own rods from glass,Trying to get the perfect combo for braid and Flathead. And although they worked well,They lacked sensitivity,And punch when casting the flats.

I met Ross one day and he showed me the shiney new fangdangled copper finished CBR's,I was sceptical at first,But after seeing the action,And the weight needed to load the rod,I had to have it.The actual rod weight itself was also very surprising considering it's composition.Very light indeed.

Ross tried to put me into what is now the famed 783,But I like to fish light,And the 781 was my dream stick.

It has served me well over the years,And still holds a couple of P.B. captures (Including Barra ).But it dosen't see the water much at all these days.It has great sentimental value. And will be given to my expecting daughter,As her first b8caster .

I hear round the traps, you have a nice case of jackalls . Is this the rod you mainly use for them?
Yeah m8.Been collecting,Fishing,And losing,And then replacing them (Jackall's) for quite a while now.I was throwing them on the CBR for a little while with good results,But I discovered the JDM (Japanese Domestic Market) and was absolutely blown away but the rods available.Been fishin rods from the Megabass stable ever scince.Been usin a Destroyer Evoluzion "Espada" as my weapon of choice for traps for the last few years.

Very similar to the 781 in action,But way more sensitive,A little faster to recover,And has a bit more low down grunt. It's an awsome surface rod as well.

    Cheers. B8.

The underlying spirit of angling,Is that the skill of the angler,Is pitted against the instinct and strength of the fish,And that the latter is entitled to an even chance for his life. Regards, Hardb8.Kickin tails and razin scales since 1979.
