Thinking about getting Daiwa Capricorn 4500J on a Live fibre 7' 10-15Kg, or a Saltist 7' 8-15Kg. Any tips, anyone tried the Saltiga rods. Should I go for an 8' in the same weight....?

Hey mate haven't used the satiga rods but have found longer rods are better for casting distances. If they are spooky and you cant get near em the longer rod can make the difference. What sort of macks are you going for and are you spinning metal, plastics? Think the rods you are looking at might be a little on the heavy side if you are. Ben
Bent,
where are you fishing/ what type of macks?
If you are talking schoolies/spotties in 'The Bay' you are probably going a bit too heavy - go for a 5-8kg rod so you can toss a small 15g slug that matches the small baitfish. Also the Capricorn might be a bit 'slow' you'll have to wind like crazy to keep your leader away from the macks teeth.![]()

I use a 9 foot fast taper stick with shamano 6:1 ratio throwing 55g lure
30lb line the distance i throw about 75 metres
with the short stick easier to boat the fish
i know the gear is not sporting but it works
cheers Kev
Sorry munchy
shamano overhead 6:1 I have been using these reels from when they first released them Before that I used a overhead seascape 6:1
Kev
Thanks for that mate. I was looking around for an egg beater around that speed for macks as mine is only 4.7:1
I use a Saltiga A-Rounder 70S and it is a sensational rod. Casts little 7 gram searocks with ease, even though they are rated to cast 10g-40g. Can't speak highly enough of them. They are pricey, but I can see the value.
Cheers,
Was hoping to throw slugs and bigger plastics. Be fishing east NT, bays etc, not too far offshore. Hopefully chase spaniards, queenies and GT's.
Don't know if I'm dreaming with this combo. By the way I meant the Saltist rods ( saltiga too much $$$ ) Saltist 7' 10-20lb, 7' 15-30lb, 8' 20-40lb.
I've read that even though the capricorn has a slower ratio it ends up the same a a stradic due to the spool being larger in diameter.
