    so hard I

I agree with the comment about green facts...we will have to up the anti and saturate the media with our side of the story, which is the only way to have anything heard these days. The other reason is it's trendy...have to make fishing trendy then it'll be on the agenda?

This is an idea some might not like BUT what if we could come up with a way to get fisho's to be seen as 'more green than the greenies' and play their game much much better than them, we can point out they are not doing enough and only select the low hanging fruit when it comes to the environment.

Think about this - the greens want fishing shut down; we hit them on water quality, get ideas up to Government that help protect or reduce boat strike accidents with the sea creatures like mandatory prop guards to be added over 5 years, push for only low emission engines to be the standard on all new boat sales, we could have voluntary codes of conduct about spawn closures etc etc etc. If we move the agenda to further than theirs to protect the environment more in our methods, we can make out how stupid and narrow focused they are.

    What do you reckon?

Or we could all join the labour party and vote against the changes internally. Maybe some one who knows how this works can orcastrate (spell) a campaign.

You, know, instead of culling crocodiles up north like 'the people' want, maybe we could focus our attention on culling greenies, its a win win situation, the greenies can bitch all they want in their eternal damnation in hell, gun nuts can get some practice in, fisho's can enjoy themselves without fear of persecution, and the Govt, will have more money to spend on more important things, like boat ramps and parking, and more DPI officers because they won't have to give the greenies their grants because their will be none left.

    See, a solution for everyone.

Chris - there's no doubt that some inventive ways are needed to combat an established and formidable greenie movement. its ideas like this that are needed - left field ideas that will deflect the greenies and the pollies thoughts from closures to compromise.
think of it - they come up with closures and instead of whinging and protesting, we offer an alternate set of regulations to address every argument they put forward (that doesn't involve closures).
we need to 'outscience' these idiots. Paul Winn didn't even do the report - Valerie Taylor did. he's just trumpeting the closures without any credible supporting evidence. problem is, pollies and do-gooders actually listen to this tripe.

Thanks Mik01 for seeing my point of view. Your last line which I quoted above is exactly why we need to outflank these mongrels. I threw a release at the C/Mail today which may/may not get in but it is taking the release of the EPA diver only mooring at Wolf Rock in the great sandy straight (funny that it is the Ministers own turf) for divers to the next level. The divers are backing in with the AMCS, we know that, so lets take it out further - they will then find out what us fisho's are going through.

If it doesn't go to print, I'll put it up here so you can see what I mean.

One of the key issues here has always been funding, because whales and dolphins are "cute" both the public and goverments throw money at groups who associate themselves as being thier "saviours".
On the other hand fishos arent that cute sorry, and therefore become easy targets for the greens to demonise.
As previously pointed out a few of the large organisations who rake in millions of dollars each year from the rec fishing industry need to look in to thier crystal balls and thier future (or lack thereof) as we lose our fisheries one by one.
It would be great to have one unified group on the eastcoast if not all of Australia fighting for the one common cause and to be in a financial position to challenge some of this crap in the land and environment court and if not the high court. Until there is unity no large group is going to put money into a fighting fund.
