Windscreen rubbers

I'm sure I'm not the only one to have this problem. Every time you touch or it seems like you go near the windscreen rubbers you spread black c@$p everywhere. You go to wash the boat down and it spreads, you wash it off and come back later when its dry and theres black run marks down the nice white paint. It will come off if you polish it but whats the point it will be there again next time.

Is there anything you can do to fix it (apart from pulling them out and replacing them) or something you can wipe over the rubbers to preserve them and stop them running?

hi mate - seems odd, rather like the rubber is not meant for outdoor use? how old is the boat? sounds like it is breaking down and perhaps in need of replacement.
you could try ringing clark rubber to see if they have any ideas or products that might 'seal' the rubber, but I reckon you're destined to replace it.

I come across it all the time, all depends on who manufactured the screen and what they used.

Maybe get in touch with the windscreen manufacturer and chat with them, you can usually find their brand as a little print/sticker in the corner somewhere

the only way to solve problem is to do wat i have done and lose your windscreen,

Kezza, Auto hardware on Aerodrome rd Maroochydore sell new windscreen rubber, thats the easiest way to fix your problem.

dbl - sounds like a good idea, but its not p!$$ing me off that much yet and besides I've got a Yammy not an e-tec so according to some theres no chance I can go fast enough.
DarrenD - The rubber must have been some sort of rubber putty which is put aroung the glass and set in, not a preformed rubber.
Mick - The boat is only six years old and if its not designed for outdoor use then I'll just have to find a big enough indoor pool to launch it

had the same problem with the trim around the inside of my Boat, I ended up pulling the rubber bit out, but I think if you give it a good clean, then keep the Armourall up to it, you may be OK, it is just the rubber goes all crappy and the black comes off, but the Armourall will keep it nice and clean/new.

i have real rubber on my windscreen and it does not run like that. simply put - it should not do that! it sounds like its slowly corroding away and will degrade over time. even on old cars I've had its never been that bad.
I would eventually rip it out when you have spare time and replace it with real rubber. thats just shit to run like that on a 6yr old boat - you must be frustrated!
