Rod freight -Post or courier?
Anyone done this before? What do people use to contain the rod that doesn't blow the costs out?

Re: Rod freight -Post or courier?
depends where you want to send it, but a cheap tube can be made out of ordinary old Plumbers plastic pipe, for a couple of rods, the 90mm is fine, you can buy screw ends and stuff, they are as strong as all buggery, when I pack mine, if there is a couple, I just cable tie them (loosely) tip to butt, so no thin tip sections are sticking out beyond a butt, then a bit of old foam around the end, push it in, maybe some more foam half way, and them some on the end so they are sort of stuck in the centre of the tube, screw on the cap and your done! OH I also make sure all the guides are facing inwards if possible, sent them by courier all over the place with no drama yet!

Re: Rod freight -Post or courier?
just as a rough guide, I have sent rod tubes from the Illawarra region to QLD by Courier and the cost is usually about $15, I try to do that when I am travelling by Plane, so you do not need to stuff about at the Airport, but of course you need an address at the other end to receive it for you!

Thanks Noelm, I should have said that I am trying to get a rod to me from a seller, but don't want to stuff the seller around too much getting it to post, nor blow the overall cost out, guess I could always make one of your ones and send it down!
thanks fnq

Re: Rod freight -Post or courier?
if it is only one rod, then you can go smaller in the tube size, and just glue on the ends, and break them off when you get the thing to your place, would only cost a few dollars that way, where do you want to get it to and from?

FNQ........if the seller is in the Redlands, Brisbane, I have a couple of spare rod tubes in the shed. HE's welcome to pick one up if he.s near me.
