    About jackals

Now it seems that the jackal lure is the item of choice for a variety of fishing duities, particularly barra and bass.

    Use in context
I threw by favorite jackal into this snag, a huge (barra, jack, cod.... select one) nailed it & headed back into the snag, I was busted off before i knew what happened. I lost $300 in lures that day.

I just want to clarify a few things.
When we talk about a "Jackal" are we refering to a Jackal bro's rattling lipless crank bait or are we also including other Jackal bro's lures... do they make other lures?

Can refering to a jackal in fact be a generic term for a rattling lipless crank bait, such as a "rattlin rapala" or other similar item.

How do the similar items compare in performance..... and price.

I've seen the Diawa manufactured under licence jackals running at $25...... I wouldnt want to lose too many of those.

    cheers

Oldboot, Jackall make all types of lures. Certainly not a generic term for a lipless crankbait. I have a couple of the chubby's. Great lures.

    Check out these baby's

I believe that sometimes, the brand name Jackalls, are used as a generic term for lipless crankbaits. Definitely.

Jackall is in no way a generic term, but unfortunately does get used as one by a minority.

I've heard blokes say they were using a jackall when in fact they were using a Kokoda lipless etc etc.

What, $300 of lures lost in a day, I think it is time to upgrade to 50 lb braid and some serious drag settings.

Oldboot sorry to hear your losses .... It would be like a death in the family
Jackall brothers make a large range of lures ( topwater , jerkbaits, deep divers etc) ...... The Jackalls you are using a the best lipless crankbaits you can buy ( lots of copys)
The daiwa vibs are just about as good as a Jackall ( but there is not much of a $$ saving) ..... You can also look at the River 2 Sea Phantoms ($10)
However if you want to stick with the best ...... Buy off Ebay.com ..... You can find the TN60s & 70s for around $12-$15 OZ ...... If you buy a few the freight charge may only add $2 to each lure ....... Thats much better than the $25 that you pay locally ..... Anyhow check it out , you might be pleasantly surprised..... Nagg

    Re: About jackals

I wouldn't call any other crankbait a Jackall, there's some great lures out there now. I use Jackall's along with a lot of others which are priced much lower...Spro's $15, Evergreen Littlemax $17 and these are local prices . In my opinion these two lures take as many fish as a TN60 ( for me anyway ) But if the fish are very very quiet I will tie on a Jackall mask vib..that's my "last resort" lure.
They are very good, but if used correctly so are a lot of others.

Oh no no no........ I havn't lost $300 in lures...... that was just an example of " in context" use of the word.

There was a poster a few weeks ago that lost something like that in a an hour or so's fushing though .

Krikey I couldn't afford to lose that much money to a snag.... regardless of the size or quality of the fish.

So there are some alternative then:smiley:

Oh I'm well familiar with the lures on ebay thing, and other money saving lure methods.........I don't think I have paid full price for a lure yet.

If you are a vulture like me........ there is always money to be saved............ unless you want it now.......... me I wait for the deals to come my way

    cheers

    Aigutso,

The chubbies are great on bream. Floating, easy to work, deep diving and strong vibration. One of my favourite bream lures
