    Need some help

    Guys I need some help.

I'm in the need for a new baitcasting rod, but its got to be a cross over for 2 species.

Basically I want it for heavy bassn and it needs to be able to cope with Barra and its going to be running at least 30lb but more like 50lb. The rod doesn't need to cope with line poundage it but its more the extra strength for contact with structure.

Now I have 2 rods in mind already but I don't want to mention them yet as I want to see what replys I get as I don't want anyone to be influenced by what i want, plus I want some fresh ideas.

So your help would be greatly appreciated.

    Cheers

By all reports the Egrell range has what you need.

mate i dont see the need for heavy bass gear ive caught 50+cm river bass on a bronzeback 4-8lb with a 2000 sol stops them no worries unless you like scull dragin em. barra cant coment yet havent caught one got all the gear been on the expensive charter in the territory we didnt raise a scale the gear ive got is a loomis gl2 12-20 with a zillion 30lb pe its pretty stiff i dont think you could cast most bass lures very accuratly with it. ive caught some nice cod on it works awsome with the big cod seekers

Yeah I also thought I might be able to use the combo as a Jack Extractor as well.

The only reason i want the heavier model for bass is for the lures such as 5/8 and 3/4oz spinnerbaits not so I can skull drag them in, but some time they need to be skull dragged to stop them wasting me.

Am I thinking about it the wrong way and would a stiff Bass stick be what I am actually after?

I'd go witha stiff bass stick, if I were you. I've never caught a bass, but plenty of barra. I've caught models up to 65cm on a 2-4kg stick with 6lb fireline (albeit with my stomach in my throat), and all my bigger models, up to 95cm have been on no heavier than 30lb pe braid, with my PB caught on 20lb fireline.

I would have a good look at the Ian Miller Raider range. They are very durable, not too expensive but still fit into the high quality range of rods.

Have a look at the egrells before you buy. Smith also make some very fine rods. What is your budget?

I really don't have a budget, but I'm not going to go overboard with a rod either.

I used to do some work for a tackle sotre back home and now not working there has left my knowledge on the new rods slip

I was leaning towards the Nitro Barra classic asits the best value for money I can see.

However I am open to suggestions, but rods in the ball park of say $500+ may take some convincing as the combo will not be used every weekend either.

    Cheers
