    monduran bash

    Howdy all,
The trio including 2 fresh water barra virgins nob and modo, i myself have had the pleasure of fishing this wonderfull place more times then i should this year ( maybe i should take my wife more, if you no what i mean). After a eventfull start to saturady morning we headed off for a quick cast in a few of the bays before the sun rose to high, with no luck. decide to move more up the areas of cattle yards and j, working the hole area between casting and trolling.Modo had the fisrt strike leaping out of the water only to see the lure goin the opposite way. Around 9 am the first barra came aborad nice 780 model on cast, followed by a second same size 30 mins later. Unit about 4 in the afternoon things went quiet only getting catfish(big buggers to) so the decisson was made to have a troll up in j arm. Things changed first nob got smashed lure gone, then again nob got smashed this time while reaching for a beer the rod went with the barra. Thank god the barra spat the lure and we found the rod. Off again we went 30 min later old modo broke the virginity nice 930cm barra boated, the way his hands where shaking he would had made a great coctail. And the smile this boy had you couldnt put into words. 1/2 hr later bang a nice 860 model came a board. Decisson was made to head back to camp nice cold rum and put the feet up.
Second day again up before the sun headed off hoping for a good morning session before goin home at 10 am. Pulled up on some timber we found a couple off fish on the day before and 1/2 hr of casting first barra was boated nice 860 model. We all picked out a area that had taken our intrest from the day before , nice bay with a snagged submerged, a few strikes came within the first few casts then after 1 hr all hell broke loose as a nice meter barra powered off with my lure in it mouth 10 min later over the side she came, my first meter at the dam, few pic and off she went. Back to the same spot and again bang modo was on, off through the sticks we go again and over the side he gets a nice 970cm few pics and back again, bang again modo was on again a nice 970 model again, by now poor old nob must of been getting the shits with us pair, then bang nob was on but only to see his lure fly out of the barra mouth. After a few words in went nobs lure again and bang this time he was hooked onto a freight train and this was no freight train to be hooked onto in the timber, full board on the electric motor through the timber chasing this monster, then she came to the surface monster barra i heard from behind and so did she as this was the last we soare her as she took of into the timber again and snapped the leader, with the instant bruise on nobs chest and his hands saking in was time for a beer to carm the nevers. After a few more cast on the snag things went quite(wouldnt be suprise after the monster nob hooked).
Sunday morning was one of the best barra seasons i have had the pleasure of fishing, all sundays fish where on the cast(my favorite way to chase these monsters)
And as for the boof heads modo and nob thanks for a top weekend, with around 7.5 mtrs of barra boated and most probably the same in bloody cat fish, how could u ask for a better weekend

    cheers shaneoo

well done on the report Shaneoo, im sure nob and modo will be back after a few days like that. have only managed 3 hours in monduran as a quick stop on the way to prosy dam and like you said pulled in one of the biggest catties i've ever seen. Did nob put the rod down while reaching for the beer? if so was a cheep lesson. Dont you love it how they seem to always hit when least expected.bren

Sound like a great trip. Can't wait to see the pics.

What lures did the most damage? Any success with plastics?

Well done mate great to see you had a fun trip. This trip must have been a bit hotter than the -10 degree trip back when the freeze blew in June at Monduran!!!! I remember my hands hurting as i touched the trailer it was that cold!

We might be getting a few friends together in a Barra Convoy - heading up that way on the Australia Day long weekend in January (if they get organised etc). Let us know if you are at Awoonga or Monduran then (26-27-28 Jan 08) and we can catchup for a coldie or 2. Can't wait to see the Barra Pics!

Merry Xmas guys from Lyndon & Kel
